If you want Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor to read the same business facts, with notes agents never see and one payment instead of a per-user bill, LotsNotes is the better fit. If your team wants a knowledge base with doc verification, approval of agent edits and search across 20+ connected tools, Slite is built for that.

I built LotsNotes for one job: holding the context every AI agent needs (what you sell, who it's for, how you sound, the rules and the decisions) in one place that every agent reads first. Slite is a team knowledge base with its own AI, the Slite Agent, and an MCP server that lets an agent search your docs and connected sources, ask Slite for answers, and draft, edit, move, archive and verify docs. Everything about Slite below comes from its own pricing page, MCP page, help center and changelog, checked on 16 October 2026, with links at the end.

## LotsNotes vs Slite at a glance

| | LotsNotes | Slite |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Business context every AI agent reads: positioning, voice, rules, decisions and agent instructions | A company knowledge base your team and agents maintain, with verification and its own AI agent |
| Agent access | Remote MCP at `https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp` with OAuth, plus a REST API with an API key | Remote MCP at `https://api.slite.com/mcp` with OAuth, plus a public REST API with personal API keys |
| Clients | Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and any remote MCP client; cloud agents and scripts over REST | Claude (listed in the Claude directory), ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, Codex, Windsurf and any MCP client |
| What the agent can do | 31 tools in [tools.json](https://api.lotsnotes.com/tools.json), checked 26 October 2026: list, archive and restore workspaces, list folders, find notes by title, read, create, update, move, archive, trash and restore notes, manage folders, list and restore versions, invite and manage workspace members, send and list support requests | 41 tools listed on [Slite's MCP help page](https://slite.com/help/lmeen-YwXupV23/Slite-MCP), checked 19 October 2026: search docs, ask Slite, run the Slite Agent, create and edit docs block by block, tables and collections, comments, move, archive and restore, verify docs, set review state, upload files |
| Keeping things from agents | Private notes are never returned to agents or the API. Shared notes follow roles; a member can be limited to selected folders | MCP inherits the signed-in user's permissions, so the agent reaches the docs that person can open. Service accounts with channel-by-channel access are on Enterprise |
| Instructions agents read first | A note titled `AGENTS.md`, at workspace level (reaches every folder) or in one folder | Agents search and fetch docs; Slite's agent maps company vocabulary and ranks verified docs first |
| Trust and review | Every save keeps a version; agents can list and restore versions, and a save with `expected_version` gets a conflict instead of overwriting an edit | Doc verification with expiry, owners, outdated flags; Slite Agent changes and queued MCP actions go through human approval |
| AI built in | None. The agents you already use do the work | Ask (AI search and answers) on Basic; Slite Agent, search across connected tools and 50 monthly credits per seat on Pro |
| Price | Free for one person (1 workspace, 3 folders, unlimited notes, MCP and REST). Pro is $99, pay once: unlimited workspaces, folders and team members | Basic $10 and Pro $20 per user a month, billed yearly. Enterprise custom. 14-day trial, no card; no free plan on the pricing page |
| What unlocks agent access | MCP and REST on every plan, Free included | MCP and API access from Basic |

## Where LotsNotes is the better choice

### Private notes that agents never see

In LotsNotes every note is shared or private. A private note stays on lotsnotes.com and never comes back through MCP or the REST API: to an agent it doesn't exist. Shared notes follow your workspace roles: owners, admins and members edit, viewers read, and a member can be given selected folders only.

Slite's MCP page says its server inherits the exact permissions of the signed-in user, so an agent can only reach docs that person could already open. That's a sound rule for a team wiki, and it means the agent sees what you see. Slite's documented way to give an automation less access than a person is a service account with access granted channel by channel, which its help center lists on the Enterprise plan. In LotsNotes you keep salary notes, investor updates or half-formed ideas in the same workspace, marked private, on any plan.

### Built around how agents read

Slite is organized as channels, docs and sub-docs for people to browse. LotsNotes is organized around the way an agent picks up context:

- **A note titled AGENTS.md is read first.** At workspace level it reaches every folder, so your house rules apply everywhere. A folder can hold its own AGENTS.md for one product, client or agent.
- **Workspace notes come back with every folder.** When an agent calls `find_context` for a folder, it gets the workspace notes plus that folder's notes, each with a one-line summary, and reads only what the task needs.
- **Every note carries its link.** Each note an agent reads or saves comes back with its lotsnotes.com URL, so the agent can hand you the page to review.

I run LotsTech's own agents this way: one folder per agent with its AGENTS.md, plan, handoff and ledger, so any agent can pick up tomorrow where another stopped. The file conventions are in [AGENTS.md vs CLAUDE.md](https://lotsnotes.com/blog/agents-md-vs-claude-md).

### Pay once, not per user

Slite bills per user: Basic is $10 and Pro $20 per user a month, billed yearly, and after the 14-day trial you need a paid plan to keep using it. LotsNotes Free covers one person with 1 workspace, 3 folders, unlimited notes and checklists, and MCP and REST access, with no time limit. When your team joins, LotsNotes Pro is one payment of $99 for unlimited workspaces, folders and team members with roles.

For a team of five on Slite Basic, that's 5 × $10 × 12 = $600 a year, every year. Slite gives you a full knowledge base, AI answers and verification for that money, so this is about the price model, not like-for-like scope. If what you need is shared context for your agents, $99 once is the whole bill. And if you already have a Pro or Business plan of LotsSocial, LotsBlog, LotsTeam, LotsCRM, LotsInvoice, LotsBusiness or LotsStore, LotsNotes Pro is included while that plan is active. The details are in [LotsNotes pricing explained](https://lotsnotes.com/blog/lotsnotes-pricing-explained).

### Your agents do the thinking, so there are no AI credits

Slite's AI features are part of the product: Ask on Basic, and the Slite Agent with 50 monthly credits per seat on Pro. That's useful if you want an AI inside your wiki. LotsNotes has no built-in AI. Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor read the notes and do the work with the plan you already pay for, and nothing in LotsNotes runs out at the end of the month.

### Agent edits you can undo

Every save in LotsNotes keeps a version, and your agent can list versions and restore an earlier one itself. If someone changed a note while the agent was working, a save with `expected_version` returns a conflict instead of overwriting the edit. Archive, trash and folder deletion all hide things that can be restored. The Workspace page lists every connected app with when it was last used, and you can disconnect one everywhere.

## Where Slite fits

Slite is a mature knowledge base, and its strengths are real:

- **Verification.** Docs can be marked verified for a set period, flagged outdated or sent for review, with owners. Verified docs rank higher in Ask and the Slite Agent, and outdated ones are deprioritized or excluded. Agents can verify docs and set review state over MCP.
- **Human approval.** The Slite Agent watches connected tools such as Slack, Linear, GitHub and Intercom, detects docs that have drifted, and drafts fixes that a person accepts or dismisses in a diff view. Slite's MCP page says write actions can be queued for approval, and activity shows whether it came from the Slite Agent, an MCP or the API.
- **Search across your tools.** Super, Slite's AI search, now lives inside Slite (changelog, 28 May 2026). On Pro, Ask and the agent answer from 20+ connected sources with citations, and one MCP call can search all of them.
- **A wide MCP.** Agents can edit docs block by block, build tables and collections, start, reply to and resolve comment threads, and upload files up to your plan's file limit.
- **Enterprise controls.** SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA, OpenID SSO on Pro, and SCIM, audit logs, reader-only seats and service accounts on Enterprise.

If your team wants one maintained wiki that both people and agents trust, with a review step before changes land, Slite does that well.

## Which one should you choose?

**Choose LotsNotes if:**

- You use more than one AI agent and want every one of them reading the same business facts.
- You want some notes agents can never see, in the same tool.
- You want AGENTS.md instructions that reach every folder, and agents that read only the notes a task needs.
- You want MCP and REST on Free, and one $99 payment when your team joins.

**Choose Slite if:**

- You want a company knowledge base with verification, owners and review dates.
- You want an AI agent inside the wiki that proposes updates for a person to approve.
- You need answers across Slack, Drive, Linear, GitHub and other tools in one search.
- You need SSO, SCIM, audit logs or service accounts.

## How to switch, or run both, from your AI agent

You can run both. Slite stays the team's knowledge base, and LotsNotes holds the short, current context every agent reads first.

1. Connect LotsNotes: add `https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp` to your agent and sign in. The [setup page](https://lotsnotes.com/mcp) has the steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, and [this guide](https://lotsnotes.com/blog/connect-claude-chatgpt-codex-cursor-to-lotsnotes) walks through each one.
2. Keep the Slite MCP (`https://api.slite.com/mcp`) connected in the same agent.
3. Give the agent this prompt:

> Use Slite to search for our docs on positioning, brand voice, pricing rules and current decisions, and read each one. Prefer verified docs. Then in LotsNotes: list my workspaces and use the one for this business. Create a folder called Marketing. Create a workspace-wide note titled AGENTS.md that says, in under 300 words, who we are, who we sell to, how we write, what agents must never do, and that the full handbook lives in Slite. Then create one shared note per topic in the Marketing folder, rewritten as short, current facts. Give me the lotsnotes.com link for every note you create.

On the Slite side that uses `search-notes` and `get-note`. In LotsNotes it runs on `lotsnotes_list_workspaces`, `lotsnotes_create_folder` and `lotsnotes_create_context_note`. Later, when a decision changes, ask any agent to update the note: it reads it with `lotsnotes_read_note` and saves it with `lotsnotes_save_context_note`, and the old version stays in history.

Anything personal or sensitive you move over, mark private on lotsnotes.com, and no agent will see it.

## Common questions

### Is LotsNotes a Slite alternative?

Yes, for giving AI agents your business context. Both have a remote MCP server with OAuth and a REST API. LotsNotes adds private notes agents never see, AGENTS.md notes that reach every folder, a Free plan with MCP, and a one-time $99 Pro instead of per-user billing. It doesn't replace Slite's verification, approval workflow or search across connected tools.

### Does Slite MCP work with Claude?

Yes. Slite's help center says to go to Settings, Connectors, Discover in Claude Desktop, search for Slite, connect and sign in; Slite MCP was added to the Claude directory in September 2026. Any other client can add `https://api.slite.com/mcp` as a remote server with OAuth. LotsNotes connects the same way at `https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp`.

### Which Slite plan includes MCP?

Slite's pricing page lists MCP and API access on Basic, at $10 per user a month billed yearly, and on every plan above it. The 14-day trial includes Basic and Pro features with no card. Search across connected tools and the Slite Agent need Pro, at $20 per user a month billed yearly. Checked on 16 October 2026.

### Slite vs Notion: which is better for AI agents?

They solve different jobs. Slite is a knowledge base built around verified docs, approvals and its own agent. Notion is an all-in-one workspace for docs, databases and projects. Both run a hosted MCP server with OAuth that acts with your permissions. If what your agents need is a short, current set of business facts, compare both with LotsNotes: see [LotsNotes vs Notion](https://lotsnotes.com/blog/lotsnotes-vs-notion).

### Can my AI agent read my private notes?

In LotsNotes, no. Private notes stay on lotsnotes.com and are never returned through MCP or the API. Slite's MCP inherits the signed-in user's permissions, so an agent can reach every doc that person can open.

### How much does LotsNotes cost?

Free for one person: 1 workspace, 3 folders, unlimited notes and checklists, MCP and REST. LotsNotes Pro is $99, pay once, for unlimited workspaces, folders and team members, and it's included while you have a Pro or Business plan of LotsSocial, LotsBlog, LotsTeam, LotsCRM, LotsInvoice, LotsBusiness or LotsStore.

## Start with your agent

Give your agent this and let it set itself up:

> Read https://lotsnotes.com/skill.md and connect LotsNotes for me. The MCP server is https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp.

Free covers one person, with MCP and REST included. See [pricing](https://lotsnotes.com/pricing), [how to connect your agent](https://lotsnotes.com/mcp), the [best knowledge base tools with MCP support](https://lotsnotes.com/blog/best-knowledge-base-tools-with-mcp-support), or [all comparisons](https://lotsnotes.com/compare).
