LotsNotes for Codex

Give Codex your business context with LotsNotes

LotsNotes for Codex gives Codex your business context and engineering rules: architecture decisions, conventions and an AGENTS.md note it reads before it changes anything. Codex reads and updates shared notes over MCP from the AI agent you already use, and you write and organize them in the dashboard. Every other agent reads the same notes.

Connect Codex

  1. 1

Add the server. It is saved to ~/.codex/config.toml, which the Codex CLI and IDE extension share.

codex mcp add lots-notes --url https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp
  2. 2

Sign in with your Lots account in the browser that opens.

    codex mcp login lots-notes
  3. 3

Check it is connected: run codex mcp list, or type /mcp in Codex.

In the LotsNotes dashboard

  1. 1

Sign in at lotsnotes.com and open your workspace.

  2. 2

Write workspace notes for what applies everywhere, and add a folder per product, client or agent.

  3. 3

Mark a note shared to let connected agents read it, or private to keep it on lotsnotes.com only.

Ask your agent

“Read our AGENTS.md and the Engineering folder before you change anything.”

“Save this architecture decision to the Engineering folder and send me the link.”

“Check the Conventions note and tell me what this change breaks.”

Questions

Why not keep AGENTS.md in the repository?

A file in one repository reaches only agents working in that checkout. A note titled AGENTS.md in LotsNotes reaches Codex, Claude, cloud agents and your teammates, wherever they run.

Do I need an API key to connect Codex?

No. Codex connects to https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp and you sign in with your Lots account. API keys are only for cloud agents and your own code that use the REST API.

Can Codex read my private notes?

No. Private notes stay on lotsnotes.com and are never returned through MCP or the API. Shared notes follow your workspace roles.

Can Codex change my notes?

Yes, shared notes in folders your role can edit. Every save is kept in version history, so you can restore an earlier version, and each note the agent reads or saves comes back with its lotsnotes.com link for you to review.

What does it cost?

LotsNotes is free for one person: 1 workspace, 3 folders and unlimited notes. LotsNotes Pro is one payment of $99 for unlimited workspaces, folders and team members.
