LotsNotes for Cursor
Give Cursor your business context with LotsNotes
LotsNotes for Cursor gives Cursor your business context and engineering rules: decisions, conventions and an AGENTS.md note it reads first. Cursor reads and updates shared notes over MCP from the AI agent you already use, and you write and organize them in the dashboard. Claude, ChatGPT and Codex read the same current notes.
Connect Cursor
- 1
Add LotsNotes to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or to .cursor/mcp.json in one project.
{ "mcpServers": { "lots-notes": { "url": "https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp" } } } - 2
Cursor opens the LotsNotes sign-in the first time it connects. Sign in with your Lots account.
- 3
Switch the server on or off from Customize in the Cursor sidebar. Windsurf and most other MCP clients use the same mcpServers shape.
In the LotsNotes dashboard
- 1
Sign in at lotsnotes.com and open your workspace.
- 2
Write workspace notes for what applies everywhere, and add a folder per product, client or agent.
- 3
Mark a note shared to let connected agents read it, or private to keep it on lotsnotes.com only.
Ask your agent
“Read our AGENTS.md and the Engineering folder before you change anything.”
“Save this decision to the Engineering folder and send me the link.”
“What do our conventions say about error handling?”

Questions
Why not use Cursor rules files?
Rules files reach Cursor in one project. LotsNotes is one source that Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and cloud agents all read, and your team edits it on lotsnotes.com.
Do I need an API key to connect Cursor?
No. Cursor connects to https://api.lotsnotes.com/mcp and you sign in with your Lots account. API keys are only for cloud agents and your own code that use the REST API.
Can Cursor read my private notes?
No. Private notes stay on lotsnotes.com and are never returned through MCP or the API. Shared notes follow your workspace roles.
Can Cursor change my notes?
Yes, shared notes in folders your role can edit. Every save is kept in version history, so you can restore an earlier version, and each note the agent reads or saves comes back with its lotsnotes.com link for you to review.
What does it cost?
LotsNotes is free for one person: 1 workspace, 3 folders and unlimited notes. LotsNotes Pro is one payment of $99 for unlimited workspaces, folders and team members.
